Max Schmeling
In the 1930's, one of the most famous German boxer was Max Schmeling. The humble boxer was born on September 28, 1905. In 1924, he became professional. He was the heavyweight champion of Europe. Later in his career, he came to America. Hitler told Schmeling to tell reporters in America that nothing bad was happening in Germany. In America Schmeling fought african american, Joe Louis the phenom. When Schmeling won, Germany felt it was a win for the country.
In June 1938, Louis wanted a rematch. The fight only lasted one round. Schmeling had been defeated by Louis. After the loss, Schmeling didn't fight much. Unfortunately, in 2005 Schmeling passed away. He lived a successful life. |
